Frequently Asked Questions

What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a holistic approach to health, with a focus on supporting the body’s natural healing processes. It involves using natural therapies like nutrition, herbal medicine, lifestyle advice and mind-body techniques to promote wellness and address the root causes of health issues. I have written a blog post specifically for this, you can read it here.

How does Naturopathy differ from conventional medicine?
Naturopathy and conventional medicine differ primarily in their approaches: Naturopathy emphasises treating the root causes of illness and considers the whole person, including lifestyle, mental, and emotional health, often using natural therapies like herbal medicine and nutrition. In contrast, conventional medicine tends to focus on managing specific symptoms or diseases, using standardised treatments like pharmaceutical medication and surgeries. Naturopathy leans heavily on prevention, aiming to strengthen the body's natural healing abilities, while conventional medicine prioritises diagnosing and intervening in disease processes.

What types of health concerns can you help with?
As you can see, I have a passion for gastrointestinal-related conditions such as IBS, abdominal discomfort, bacterial overgrowth, constipation and/or diarrhoea, reflux, food sensitivities, autoimmune conditions and a wide range of other digestive health concerns. However, through optimising the function of the gut, many other health related conditions may improve or resolve including hormonal imbalances, immune function, skin conditions, stress, fatigue, weight concerns and general wellness. I work with each client to create a tailored plan to address specific needs.

What should I expect during my first visit?
Your initial consultation typically includes an in-depth review of your health history (inclusive of family history), lifestyle, nutrient intake and any current health concerns. Based on this information, I may recommend specific tests, like blood tests or microbiome assessment, and create a personalised treatment plan consisting of dietary advice, supplements and lifestyle recommendations.

How long will it take to see and feel results?
The timeline for results can vary based on individual health concerns, lifestyle, and adherence to the treatment plan. Some clients may notice improvements within a few weeks, while chronic or complex issues may require several months to see significant changes. It is important for you to know, the path to optimal health often has ups and downs, just like any meaningful journey. Our bodies are complex, and as we work on healing, we may experience progress one day and setbacks the next, especially as underlying issues surface and get resolved. These fluctuations are normal and are often signs that the body is adjusting and adapting. Healing is a gradual process that requires patience and flexibility, and over time, these ups and downs generally lead to overall improvement.

Why are your services so expensive?
When you invest in a consult or package, you’re supporting much more than just the time spent together in the session. Behind the scenes, I dedicate hours to researching, analysing functional tests and pathology results, crafting personalised treatment plans, providing nutrition and dietary guidance and staying connected with clients through a direct messaging service. I also limit my consultations to allow focused attention on each individual case. This approach ensures every aspect of your health journey receives the time and attention it deserves.

What is the cost of functional testing?
The price of functional testing varies according to the provider and test type. Test prices may vary between $50 for basic bloodwork to $530 for an extensive microbiome analysis. Following the initial consultation, I will be able to give an indication of the most appropriate test type and cost. I understand every person has different financial capacities and I will make every effort to work within yours. However, it is important to know, microbiome analysis often forms a crucial component of my work and also supports positive clinical outcomes for clients.

What is a gut microbiome analysis?
A gut microbiome analysis is a comprehensive assessment of the diverse microorganisms residing in your gastrointestinal tract, through laboratory examination of your stool. Through careful analysis of the composition and balance of the gut bacteria, I gain valuable insights into your digestive health, immune function and overall wellbeing. It helps identify imbalances that may contribute to symptoms such as bloating, food sensitivities or gastrointestinal disorders. With this information, I can create personalised recommendations to restore gut health and enhance your vitality through specific, targeted dietary and lifestyle interventions.

Do you offer in-person consultations?
I offer online Telehealth conferencing consultations only. This does not impact my ability to provide the same level of personalised care and is convenient for clients unable to visit in person, or whom prefer to consult with me from the comfort of their own home.

Do you see clients under 18 years of age?
My practice currently focuses on clients aged 18 and over to ensure I can provide the highest quality of care within my expertise.

Do you see international clients?
At this time, I’m only able to consult with clients based in Australia to ensure I provide the best support possible.

Are Naturopathic services covered by health insurance?
Coverage for Naturopathy varies by location and insurance provider. Some policies may offer partial coverage for Naturopathic services, so it’s best to check with your provider to confirm.
